Dr. Mel R. Brashears passed away February 14, 2024, in San Jose, CA at the age of 78. He grew up in Perry, Mo and earned a doctorate in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from the University of Missouri in Columbia. His career spanned 30 years at Lockheed Corporation, which merged with Martin Marietta to become Lockheed Martin Corporation in 1995. At the time of his retirement Brashears was President and COO of the Space and Strategic Missiles Sector of Lockheed Martin.
He was an avid fisherman, golfer, and genealogist in his retirement years. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Vicki, two sons, Robert and Richard and 5 grandchildren. He was a CA resident for the past 45 years. Both a private family burial service and a celebration of life were held in San Jose.
